April is Alcohol Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing understanding about alcohol use, promoting healthier choices, and encouraging conversations about prevention and recovery. Alcohol use is common in many social settings, but it can also affect physical health, mental well-being, and community safety.

At Catalyst CT | The Hub, Alcohol Awareness Month is an opportunity to share information, prevention efforts, and support healthier decision-making across our communities. Throughout the month, we encourage community members and partners to learn more about alcohol’s impact, reflect on personal habits, and explore resources that support informed choices.

Campaign Highlight: Cutting Back on Alcohol

Catalyst CT | The Hub is helping highlight a statewide awareness campaign encouraging individuals to reflect on their relationship with alcohol. This campaign shares the message that you’re not the only one cutting back. In fact, almost half of adults in the United States do not drink alcohol regularly.

Understanding Your Drinking: Explore interactive tools to estimate how much alcohol may be in your drink, the calories it contains, and the potential financial cost of drinking over time.

Symptoms of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD): Learn about common warning signs and when it may be time to seek support.

Check Your Drinking Self-Assessment: The AUDIT questionnaire is a short self-test that helps individuals reflect on their alcohol use and its potential impact on health and well-being.

The Hub Resource Guides: The Hub collects health and recovery resources from the 14 towns we serve, as well as a list of free support groups.

Connecticut Center for Recovery (Greenwich): Provides personalized addiction and mental health treatment.

Mountainside Wilton: Offers flexible addiction treatment and recovery services.

New Foundations Recovery (Norwalk): Provides coaching and peer support to help individuals navigate sobriety.

Alcohol Awareness Month reminds us that education, prevention, and access to support can make a meaningful difference. By sharing information and resources, we can help create healthier and more informed communities.

Behind the Wheel – Alcohol and Its Impact Date: March 25th, 2026 | Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Virtual via Zoom Join Catalyst CT | The Hub and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for a virtual Lunch & Learn exploring the real-life consequences of alcohol-impaired driving. This session will include prevention strategies and a personal story highlighting how one decision can have lifelong impacts.

Death By Numbers: Film Screening & Panel Discussion

Date: March 26th, 2026 | Time: 5:30pm - 8:00pm

Join us for an exclusive premiere screening of Death by Numbers, a powerful and moving short film that follows a school shooting survivor as she confronts her past in a poetic journey toward healing and empowerment. After the screening, stay for a live panel discussion with the director and writer for deeper insight into the story and its impact.

The Sober Truth: From Addiction to Recovery

Date: March 30, 2026 | Time: 6:30pm - 7:30pm

Fairfield CARES is hosting an inspiring community presentation featuring Hunter Flores, who will share his lived experience with addiction and recovery. Through his personal story, attendees will learn about the realities of substance use and the path toward healing and recovery.

New Training Opportunity: TIPS University

We are excited to offer TIPS University (Training for Intervention ProcedureS), a skills-based alcohol prevention training designed for college campuses. The program provides students with tools to recognize signs of intoxication, intervene safely, and help reduce alcohol-related risks while promoting a safer campus culture.

Join us for an engaging conversation about how retailer visits can help prevent youth access to cannabis and nicotine products in your community, and how you can get involved!

Training & Presentations

On the last Friday of every month, we host virtual “Community Conversations about Gambling” to discuss the impact of problem gambling, and how to help loved ones impacted by the disease. The training covers local, regional, and state resources for problem gambling prevention, treatment, and recovery.
The trainings are hosted virtually on the last Friday of every month from 9:30-10:30am.
